Domestic Violence is something that can affect anyone. It sees no class, race, gender, or sexual orientation. That is why it is the mission of the LAGLC to not only increase services to but also awareness of what intimate partner violence (IPV) looks like at various stages. This requires research and insight into what the LGBTQ community views as violence and red flags. The mission was to investigate the state of awareness within the community and assess what solutions would be best suited to the needs of the community as a whole in Southern California.
The Solution
Create, design, disseminate surveys for understanding the breadth of and solutions to intimate partner violence within the LGBTQ community. 3,000+ surveys were created, printed, and disseminated by volunteers at local pride events over the course of 3 years.
The Result
After statistical analysis, the agency was able to gain insight on the experience of IPV at various stages and discover the most accessible solutions to survivors wishing to seek help. A report was drafted, and an advertisement for the solutions offered was placed in local LGBTQ publications. Ultimately, these best solutions to preventing and mitigating IPV were reported to local, state, and federal agencies that fund IPV programs and served as the informative framework with which important decisions and supportive measures were executed.
